Understanding the World

Understanding the World is one of the building blocks of success in life. Understanding the World involves guiding children to make sense of their physical world and their community. Children’s personal experiences, including visits and visitors, increases their knowledge and sense of the world around them. Children listen to a broad selection of stories, non-fiction, rhymes and poems that foster their understanding of our culturally, socially, technologically and ecologically diverse world.

In the revised EYFS Framework, Understanding the World is broken down into three Early Learning Goals:

  • Past and present
  • People, Culture and Communities
  • The Natural World
