Our Class

Learning together in Nursery and Reception

The children enjoy being busy and choosing their own learning.. Here you can see what they have all been busy learning during their time in Nursery and Reception.

Church and Local Area Visits

As part of learning about special people and places, the Reception children visited two local churches in Ilkley. They found out about different parts of the churches and noticed things that were the same and different between them. They loved looking at the stained glass windows in each!

The junior doctors have been on hand to tend to all of the medical emergencies. We have needed lots of appointments to help many ill patients to get better.

Plants and Trees

In Reception, we have been busy learning all about plants and their parts. We went on a hunt for plants and trees and talked about the differences of stems and trunks. We learnt a song which helped the children to act out the growth of a seed. This helped us learn what plants need to grow.

Strong Fingers

Reception have been working hard to make their fingers strong. They have learnt how to hold a pencil with their 'snappy fingers' and have been practising controlling their pencils when drawing.

The children explored different ways to print. They creates printed patterns using different man made and natural objects.

Our Flower Garden

In PE, the children have been learning all about the different ways to move their bodies.

The children enjoyed weeding and planting new flowers in the garden. They worked together and handled the plants carefully before planting them. Finally they watered them, "to help them grow".

Askwith Cafe

The children enjoy using their imagination to create wonderful models and pictures. It is lovely to see how well they can work together to develop their ideas.

The children enjoyed picking the vegetables that we had grown in our garden. They worked together to clean and prepare them before making a delicious soup for everyone in the class.

Young Vets

We have had some sick animals in class 1 this week. Fortunately Class 1's young vets were on hand to organise appointments, arrange operations and to care for the animals until they recovered.

Stories and Roleplay

The children love choosing and listening to stories, audio books and rhymes. They really enjoy retelling their favourite stories using puppets and creating their own stories using our story stones.

Cooking and Nutrition

The children enjoyed learning how to design and create their own buns. They worked together in teams to make them. They worked together to sort and think of their own healthy and unhealthy foods.

Our Nativity this year was all about the magical Christmas jigsaw. Well done to all of the children. They did a great job!
